چکیده

Epidemiological evidence suggests that treatment with f l-blockers and diuretics increase the risk to develop diabetes. Prospective, randomized studies of antihypertensive drugs have demonstrated differences between different classes of drugs regarding effects on insulin sensitivity. Thus treatment with ,-blockers or diuretics is associated with impairment in insulin sensitivity, whereas most modern calcium-channel blockers and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are neutral. However, captopril treatment seems to be different and result in improvement of insulin sensitivity. The most pronounced improvements have been obtained with al-blockers. In populations at high risk for diabetes, it may be justified to select drugs that improve insulin sensitivity when treating hypertension in insulin resistant individuals. Effects of angiotensin II and insulin on ERK1/2 activation in fibroblasts from hypertensive patients.

BACKGROUND Insulin resistance, a frequent finding in hypertensive patients, leads to accelerated cardiovascular damage. It has been suggested that a crosstalk between angiotensin II and insulin signaling pathways may provoke insulin resistance, and may contribute to the development of cardiovascular damage. To identify a common pathophysiologic pathway between metabolic disorders and cardiovasc...

Metformin and Pioglitazone Reduce Gene Expression of Inflammatory Factors in Insulin Resistant and Hypertrophied Adipocytes

Objective: In obesity, chronic low grade inflammation, created by induction of pro-inflammatory markers, causes adipocyte dysfunction in adipose tissue. Adipocytes dysfunction is associated with various diseases including insulin resistance and obesity. In obesity, inflammatory factors such as osteopontin (OPN), angiopoietin-like protein 2 (Angptl2) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) are...
